The top ten worst railway stations are set for a re-vamp asap according to a recent report. There were plans originally by Network Rail to spend £3.25bn to improve more than 2,000 stations across England and Wales.
The government have listed 10 urgent stations in need of re-vamp those of which include Manchester Victoria, Clapham Junction, Liverpool Central and our very own Luton.
Most of the 10 had below a 50% customer satisfaction rating, so a real desperate need to ensure these are brought into the 21st Century is in place. The improvements will include improved passenger information systems, new toilets and waiting rooms, better lighting and more use of CCTV.
I'm sure these improvements are just what are needed, in the type of society we all live in today anything to make that long, dark and cold wait for the train more comfortable and safe is a bonus. It may also help to boost train use which is exactly what the government wants.
